Rugby 101
In many ways, rugby is a far less cumbersome sport than football. However, as with any sport,
there are rules which must be followed, and penalties that result from breaking them. The following primer will give you a pretty good
idea how the sport of rugby is played, and will be great preparation regardless of whether you intend to watch or play:
You could also invest in a copy of Rugby for Dummies for a no-nonsense and entertaining introduction to the sport. Or even better... just show up at practice and we'll teach you how to play!
Curious about what a rugby match looks like? Check out this video of the Boston Ironsides RFC in action. Also, EA Sports has created an impressive videogame called Rugby 2005. The training video from that game gives a very good overview of the sport; you can watch it here. Finally, professional rugby matches are occasionally shown on Fox Sports Net; check your local listings. Live matches are usually on very late at night, so be sure to set your Tivo! :-)
